Director of Assessments

The Director of Assessments will increase and strengthen Victory’s Assessment Department. The director’s goal is to create a highly regarded, quality conscious, and robust source for traditional print and interactive assessment items for the industry. This department will develop high-stakes, formative, summative, and performance-based assessment items. The Director of Assessments will report directly to the President and CEO.

  • This person will:
  • establish a team of editors and writers of passages and multiple-choice items in key disciplines

  • generate schedules and maintain work flows to meet deadlines successfully

  • review assessment blueprint and content/sensitivity to guide the modification of content standards for ELL and special populations

  • direct writer training and oversee content-area item writing and review

  • The successful candidate will have experience:
  • evaluating common-core standards and objectives, design specifications, and prototypes to assess those standards

  • developing assessment materials for math, science, reading, ELA, and social studies that involve mixed-item types (multiple choice, short answer, essay, open-ended, and writing prompts) using pencil and paper and online platforms

  • understanding complex arrangement of items and standards

  • aligning items to curriculum objectives and instructional practice

  • hand-scoring student essays and constructed responses for high-stakes state assessment programs

  • teaching in the classroom, which included writing instruction and formative assessment

  • meeting tight deadlines

  • A degree in statistics or measurement is required.

    Classroom teaching experience, which includes writing instruction and formative assessment, is desirable.

    Experience planning, coordinating, and performing statistical and psychometric analysis for educational institutions will be helpful.

    Work with educational publishing or testing firms is also desirable.

    Supervising Reading and English Language Arts Editor

    The supervising editor position requires experience as a senior editor of K–5, 6–8, or 9–12 Reading and English Language Arts. The position requires the ability to:

    • plan and develop projects and programs

    • develop positive working relationships with clients

    • set up and adhere to budgets

    • set up and track project workflows and delivery schedules

    • understand pertinent pedagogical and market issues, including ESL, ELL, RTI, and assessment

    • identify competitive products and trends in the marketplace

    • demonstrate a strong understanding of the publishing process

    Supervising editors play a major creative role in the success of Victory Productions. Victory’s marketing group calls on their expertise to:

    • assist with RFQ’s and the bidding process

    • attend relevant professional conferences

    • assist the marketing and sales department in securing business

    • develop editorial budgets

    • create innovative product plans for clients

    • Editorial Management:
    • play a leading role in assembling editorial teams for projects

    • recommend and secure staffing decisions based upon project specs

    • supervise development, clarification, and finalization of editorial guidelines signified by securing written approval of editorial guidelines from clients

    • develop and/or supervise production of schedules with a focus on editorial process

    • coordinate planning with other Victory departments

    • assist in coordinating and securing freelancers

    • work with client contact until appropriate to delegate the role to another team member

    • serve as a reference to project team members and junior editors

    • supervise staff and freelance editors; ensure that procedures are in place for quality assurance to meet client needs (checklists for each stage of development); review manuscript and procedures to give constructive feedback and guidance at regular intervals

    • motivate, lead, mentor, and assist junior editors and project managers

    • keep current with the latest trends in education (especially in Language Arts and in Reading); develop creative solutions for our clients

    • keep up-to-date with new digital platforms and direct teams to develop non-print solutions

    • possess a thorough knowledge of the Common Core and other appropriate standards for K–12 learning and the textbook marketplace

    BA or higher

    Experience in educational publishing is a must
